We seek to continuously improve health care for the public, in collaboration with other stakeholders, by evaluating health care organizations and inspiring them to excel in providing safe and effective care of the highest quality and value. We accredit and certify more than 22,000 health care organizations and programs in the United States. Recently, we launched the Sustainable Healthcare Certification program to provide a framework to help hospitals and health systems expand or continue their decarbonization efforts and to receive public recognition of their commitment and achievements in contributing to environmental sustainability. This voluntary certification can help organizations in developing plans with goals to reduce an organization’s choice of at least three key sources of greenhouse gas emissions or waste.
